Woodwind Ensembles

Woodwinds have a mellow sound that blends well with a variety of instruments, including strings, brass, and piano. There are two types of woodwinds: flutes and reeds (clarinet, saxophone, etc.). Wedding Ceremonies with woodwinds or a mix of instruments are very popular. This page describes the different types of woodwind instruments we offer, lists some suggested ensembles, and shows some popular woodwind pieces from our repertoire.

Woodwind Instruments

Woodwind instruments clarinet, flute, piccolo, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone saxophone

Instrument Description/Notes
Clarinet The versatile clarinet sounds great in classical, jazz, Dixieland, tangos, and more!
Flute The flute has a light, airy sound, in the same general range as the violin.
Piccolo The piccolo is a smaller version of the flute that plays much higher notes.
Soprano Sax The highest pitch of the saxophone family, analagous to clarinet or trumpet.
Alto Sax Slightly lower than a soprano, this instrument plays in the middle to upper register.
Tenor Sax A classic jazz instrument with a mellow, almost throaty sound.
Baritone Sax The lowest pitched instrument of the sax family, analogous to tuba or bass.

Woodwind Ensembles

The size of the ensemble is up to you. This section describes the typical setup for each ensemble. If you don't see something you want, just contact us and we'll be happy to put together something just for you.

Ensemble Description/Notes
Soloist A flute or clarinet soloist, usually with piano or organ accompaniment (provided by you or by us). Also available a capella for outdoor events, etc.
Duo The most popular are flute and cello or clarinet and cello. Again, piano/organ accompaniment or a capella both sound great.
Trio Flute or Clarinet, Violin, Cello is very popular. Our newest sensation is Trumpet, Saxophone, Trombone. Really nice blend of sounds!
Quartet Flute or Clarinet with a string trio (Violin, Viola, Cello). Or a sax quartet (all four saxes). Much fuller ensemble and really fills a church or an outdoor venue.

Popular Woodwind Pieces
